- description -
This book consists of narrative poems depicting Walt Whitman’s experiences in the Civil War and concludes with a lyrical poem that reads as a parallel text with Whitman’s “While Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d”. The poems are based upon Whitman’s accounts in Specimen Days and filled with numerous references to his life and poetry. The book can be read alone, but also creates an intertextual dialog with my previous book Whispering Emily celebrating the two greatest American poets.
